Is Microsoft Learning?

February 28, 2011

A few weeks ago, Microsoft Offered Geohot (the guy who hacks Iphones as a hobby and who offered up the Sony ps3 jailbreak) a phone so he could mess around with wp7 tweaks.  I didn’t think much of it.  Later they donated money to his legal defense fund against Sony.  I dismissed it as being a way to mess with a competitor.  Now though, Microsoft is offering up a Software Toolkit for Kinect so it can run on a variety of devices including, for example, a rescue robot that can climb through rubble and find people to save.

Granted these are just anecdotes, but they DO seem to point to a trend toward something a little less evil than Microsoft’s usual attitude against anything involving freedom.  Of course, being less oppressive than Sony and Apple is about as difficult as being less oppressive than Stalin and Hitler.
