A Rather Gruesome Irony
Natasha Pettigrew was killed by a Cadillac Escalade on Monday. She was struck by the SUV while riding her bicycle and drug several miles to the driver’s home. The driver thought she hit a deer or dog and didn’t want to bother stopping to check since it was so early in the morning.
Every single thing about her death – from the bicycle getting hit and the SUV doing the hitting to the fact that the driver didn’t care enough about the prospect of an animal laying suffering to stop and check – would likely have added salt to the fatal wounds Ms Pettigrew suffered. She was a Green Party candidate campaigning for a U.S. Senate Seat in Maryland. The only thing that could have made it worse would be if the driver were coming home from a long trip running a strip mine or clearing rainforest for a parking complex in Brazil. Even the fact that she was dragged so far is made worse when you realize what that would do to your gas mileage.
The saddest thing is that if she had simply been sensibly driving in a nice safe Suburban, Tahoe, Hummer or even a Ram, she would undoubtedly still be alive today.
